Sweater Weather Finally...

Hey everyone! Hope things are going good for you guys! This was a pretty solid week in Houston!

At the beginning of the week I had the opportunity to go on exchanges with another elder which was pretty good! Got to help him out with somethings. It was kind of chilly this week and I got to whip out the sweater! Hopefully it gets colder because I hate the heat so much haha! We also had our ward thanksgiving party which was pretty fun! We had like 8 turkeys and 2 hams and a bunch of other food, but I was disappointed because for a thanksgiving party they had no pumpkin pie and I was super bummed....

This week we played soccer obviously which was fun! The hermanas have a really cool investigator named Daniel and he came and played with us, and he embarrassed the crap out of me like 10 times. I definitely need to improve some of my soccer skills! We get to play another zone this p day in soccer and I’m super hyped for that!

Funny story we where trying to find some people to talk to or help out so we went to the store and tried to look for people. Nothing really came out of it, so I went and got a drink and i was paying for it I hear in the background someone say “ hey boo” and I really didn’t think much of it but then I heard it again so I turned around and this black lady was like staring at me and said to me “what’s up boo” and I was nice and said what’s up, but it was super obvious that she was trying to hit on me and I was having none of that so we dipped out of the heir as fast as we could haha!

I have so many things to be grateful for right now! I love being a missionary and I love this gospel! Love you guys and hope you have a great week!

World Series Champions...The Houston Astros

Hey everyone! This week in H-town was of the chains!

First off GO ASTROS! People down here are going nuts! First off they canceled school so people would go to the parade. Didn’t really help us out because literally everyone was gone and we had no one to talk to haha! Then we heard that the check out line at dicks sporting goods was over a 2 hour wait just to get a shirt or something! People are going crazy for them!

On Halloween we had a leadership training that was really good! Our mission is going to change a lot in the future and I am really excited! Great things are coming and that’s exactly what this mission needs!

We have some good investigators right now. Maria Gil has been a little wishy-washy but we are going to talk with her this week!

We had a regional stake conference and it was like a mini general conference! We had the opportunity to listen to Elder Christoferson which was really good! He talked about how we can listen to the prophet even though he has been silent for a little bit. We need to listen to what he has said to us in the past, try and follow his example, and simple things like that. I love him and sustain him!

That’s all I got this week! Love you guys and hope you have a great week!

Hey everyone hope you guys had a good week! Good week here in h-town!

First things first GO ASTROS! Everyone down here is going crazy, and I really hope they win so I can see some people freak out! That would be pretty cool! Anyways the hype is real down here!

Our investigator Maria had her interview for baptism this week and she didn’t pass... She is still legally married but doesn’t live with the dude anymore and she is living with her boyfriend. She did say she wants to get married so she could get baptized so that’s good! She is still coming to church and everything! She is so cool!

Of course we played soccer this week which is always a good time! It was freaking cold last week so I got to pull out the sweater! We had a ward Halloween party and is was pretty fun! Had a DJ and everything, it was pretty cool! I had the privilege to have a district meeting with the AP’s so that was interesting. We got to help make some dope tacos and I am going to have Facebook from now on. That’s really everything that is happening here! Oh and Halloween 🎃

Love you guys! I know this gospel is true and the book is blue haha!

Have a great week!

Got Shot At....

Hey everyone hope you all had a great week this! This was a pretty crazy week! Go Astros!

To start thing off we got SHOT AT!!!!! It was pretty crazy Elder Fraley was a real champ and took one for the team. Luckily the paint came out really easy haha! Don’t worry it was just paint balls! Kind of crazy we where just riding our bikes down the street and they just let them fly! It was pretty funny!

Other than that it was a pretty normal week. As usual we played a lot of soccer and on Thursday we where playing and we had 12 investigators their and one of the young men in our ward handed each of them a Book of Mormon! It was pretty cool to see! Maria Gil will probably be baptized soon so please keep her in your prayers!

Well I had the opportunity to speak in sacrament meeting this week and I talked about our life here on earth and how the choices we make are so important! God has a plan for all of us and when we choose to follow his plan we will be blessed, but their is also Satan’s plan that can drag us down to misery, and unhappiness in the long run!

Love you guys and hope you have a awesome week!

Hey everyone! Hope you guys had a great week! This was a really good week here in Houston!

So to start things off I had exchanges with my MTC companion Elder Thomas, in my old area, so it was good to talk with him and go talk with some of the members in galena park!

We also played a lot of soccer this week which is always fun! Not gonna lie I am getting pretty good! Our ward loves to play soccer and that’s what brings in a lot of our investigators! It’s a super good finding activity! I like to compare myself to the great Zlatan Ibrahimovic. If you don’t know him, look him up I play just like that.

This week we had the opportunity to have interviews with President Hewlett! I love that man so much! He is so loving and caring it is awesome! Elder Hallstrom also came down and had a zone conference with him which was awesome! I have no doubt in my mind that that man is called of god! He spit some fire quotes and it was cool to be apart of!

Then on Sunday was had the opportunity to start up service again! My inner craftsman came out and I taught the members how to put up drywall! The thing that was the coolest for me is that I was understanding everything they where saying, and hopefully they where understanding me haha! But we got to do it for one of our investigators and hopefully they will want to listen to us more haha!

That’s really all I got this week! I know this church is true and that being a missionary is super fun! Love you guys and hope you have a great week!

Que Pasa Mufasa

Hey everyone! Hope you all had a great week this week! It was a great week here!

Well to start off the week we where playing soccer on p-day and a hermana kicked my leg and broke her toe haha!

María Gil came to church this week so that was awesome! When she got here she was quickly welcomed be the members and it was awesome to see the members involved! The members here as of late have been really awesome! One is going to buy groceries for us today and things like that! The members here are awesome!

So as of late we have been going to sushi place called sushi koi! I love that place so much! We are in super tight with the workers we are on a first name basis with them haha! I love sushi so much haha! I hate American food now I’m not gonna lie haha!

We got to have a special study with President Rascon and it was awesome! We talked about the importance of the sacrament and things like that. We went to his house and it’s super nice! He has a wall full of awards which is pretty dope! He is such a cool guy haha :)

One thing I have been studying is repentance! It’s something that we all need. Some people think it’s a bad thing, but really it’s us showing our Heavenly Father that we are change. When we do that god will find ways to bless us because we trust him! It’s not only a Sunday thing also. It’s something we need to do everyday because we are not perfect.

I love you guys and thank you so much for the emails! Hope you all have a great week!

Hey everyone! Hope you guys had a great week! Not gonna lie, after this weekend I think everyone is on a spiritual high, especially me haha! It was so good, and it was a great week to do missionary work as well!

This week was full of soccer playing! We played soccer on Tuesday and Thursday and it was great we had investigators their each day pretty much! One of our church members brought 5 kids from his soccer team to play some indoor soccer with us in Thursday! I have come to love soccer since I have been out here! I’ve got mad respect for the guys that actually play, because not gonna lie I’m gasping for air, and I probably loose a good 10 lbs of sweat after every game! But it’s ok because the members love it and it’s a great way to show investigators that we are actually normal people haha!

We had one of our really solid investigators come to watch conference with us on Saturday! Her name is Maria Gil and she is such so awesome! She has had lots of troubles in her life between losing two of her sons to overdoses, her husband leaving her, and be unemployed for a long time! The talks that she listened to in conference was just what she needed! When we where walking her out she seemed so happy and what not! Really was awesome!

Man I don’t even know where to star about conference! I really liked how they talk from President Uchtdorf about how we we can light other people’s lives through our examples and though trying to follow the example of our light Jesus Christ! Then I also really liked the talk that president Eyring gave in the priesthood session about priesthood callings and when we have faith we can receive revelation and excel more than we think we can! Our Heavenly Father wants to help us! I’ve have learned that the world is soooooo stupid haha! They made it seem so simple this conference of what we need to do to gain eternal life but so many people are caught up about how others look at them instead of god! You are perfect in his eyes! He knows your potential! He doesn’t care who you once where, he wants you to become the person he knows you can become!

I love you guys and hope you have a great week!

Hey everyone! Hope you guys had a great week! This was a good week for me and Elder Fraley! Had some fun and got some work done! Tuesday I got to go on exchanges with another elder and it went really good! We both learned something from each other and to end off the night we went and played soccer with some investigators!

Other than that this week was full of us trying to get in contact with our investigators that have a date and what not! They are so awesome the only thing holding them back is coming to church! Please pray that they will come!

On the service side of things, it was pretty slow. We are going to start helping people rebuild their houses now which should be fun! During this time I have gotten really close with some of the members, but more importantly with my lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

He is with us at all times and in all places and I know that he will always be there for me when I feel down! I know that he lives and this church is true!

I love it here, and I love serving the lord! Love you guys and have a great week!

The Rat was as Big as a Chihuahua...

Hey everyone hope you all had a good week! This week was one of the funnest of my mission with my new companion Elder Fraley! He is from West Jordan and we get along really well! I had a blast this week and we got a lot of work done!

We put 4 people on date for baptism and they are super ready! The only thing bad that happened I guess was that they had to go to Mexico for a family emergency but other than that they are doing great! It feels great to get back out there and do missionary work, but to be honest I love serving the people and helping them out! It has gotten me really close with some of the members here and I love it!

Funny story we where mucking out a house yesterday and me and Elder Fraley were in the other room and we heard someone scream. We thought that it was one of the hermanas screaming but no, it was the second councilor in bishopric haha and we go see what's going on and there was a giant rat, like as big as a chihuahua big, and it was running around and we all had shovels trying to kill it but couldn't get the stupid thing. It ran past a hermano and he kicked so hard and so far, that he probably could've made a 50 yd field goal haha! But we finally got it in the corner and we pretty much chopped its head off haha!

This week I have been thinking a lot how much God really does love us! I know these times are hard but if we keep trying to show that we have the faith that everything will be alright he is going to bless us in so many ways! I love what I am doing here for the people in Houston! Love you guys and hope you have a great week!

GATORS in the Water...

Hey everyone, just wanna let you guys know that I am fine! Everything down here has been crazy and some people are starting to loose their minds haha! Al least now I can say that I have been in a hurricane lol.

Well to start things off on Saturday the 26th we had to stay inside all day and I wanted to kill myself cause we where so bored! It was a good time for us to study and what not and just talk about life I guess! I don't remember a whole lot because it's really a day I don't want to remember!

Sunday was the crazy day! First off they cancelled church and me and Elder Romero where a little confused because from what we could see outside of our apartment window, there was nothing going on. We then decided to go outside and go look at our street, and we got out there and the water was about 2-3 feet high and we where like OK ya we need to get out of here, like now! So we ran inside and got some of our things ready, and we put stuff up on high shelves and got ready to leave. That took us about 45 minutes and when we went back outside the water was a good 3 1/2 feet pushing 4! So we start walking to this house and the water was getting deep, to the point where we could barely see the top of cars! It was quite the journey and definitely something I will never forget. We made it to the members house in about 45 minutes and I was so tired after all that and we were just sitting their soaking wet haha! Didn't sleep a whole lot that night as we heard boats, helicopters, and crazy winds going all night!

Monday we stayed there and emailed for about 20 minutes then the power went out and it was still raining cats and dogs outside! We sat their trapped in the members house but we went out for a little bit and helped some people! It was crazy the street we walked on the day before, had 14 feet of water on Monday...Pretty crazy stuff. Right down the street they where picking people up in dump trucks and launching off their boats to go save people! Monday night was crazy as the member came and woke us up in the middle of the night and told us to come downstairs and help translate as a coast guard officer who was there to start getting ready to evacuate! We ran upstairs and got things ready, and I had about 45 seconds to myself and I said a quick prayer. After that I got this overwhelming feeling that everything was going to be alright and we where going to stay here.  I still got all my things ready and helped he members get things ready for his kids but it was by far one of the most spiritual experiences of my mission!

We woke up the next morning with the water significantly down! It really was a blessing that we where able to stay! The crazy thing is his house is built to where it is not supposed to flood but it got dangerously close in the middle of the night... Like 5 feet away! Anyways we sat their and played with the kids and then it stopped raining at like 5:00 am. We decided to try and walk to our house as some of the neighborhoods didn't flood except for the streets! That was a bad idea as I almost got bit by 2 water snakes haha! That was pretty sketch!

Wednesday the rain completely stopped, and we went outside to assess all the damage. We went to a different members house to start some service and out of the corner of my eye a saw something move, and I thought it was just another snake, but this time it was a baby GATOR! I was like no way at first so I ran to go get a shovel to start playing with it, but the member did the right thing and killed it haha! That was pretty cool!

Thursday through Monday of this week was straight service all day! All in all we have probably destroyed 15 houses and we still have a lot more to go! So much damage has been done to some of these people's homes but most of them are so happy and grateful for the things that they still have! It breaks my heart to see their piles of debris just keep growing, but it makes me happy to see people doing things that Christ would do and begin to help their faith grow! The members here are super awesome! I have gotten so close to so many of them and I can't wait to continue to work with them! And by the way we got our power back Thursday night at 9:00!

I have come so much closer to Christ in these last couple of weeks! I have no doubt seen the hand of Christ and felt of his spirit so much through this disaster! He is the light and he can lead us down the darkest paths! I know this church is true and he really does love his children! Love you guys and thanks for the prayers and whatever else you guys did haha! Have a great week!
