Broken Frying Pan

Hey everyone hope you guys had a great week this week! This was a pretty interesting week here in liberty! As always it was hot as crap

To start things off we went in exchanges this Tuesday and it went pretty good. The best part was I got my back adjusted and it feels amazing haha! Also got to play with a bulldog named Zeus and I thought he was gonna die because he was so excited and was breathing so heavy! It made me laugh!

Well our investigator Rosa was doing really well. She is still coming to church reading and praying as everything but there is still that one thing holding her back.... We where walking to her front door going to teach her, and she was outside smoking:( I was super sad because she was doing really good, but I know This is something that is super hard to overcome. After we taught her and we had one of the best lessons of my mission! We went in their and and talked with her a little bit and shared ether 12:27 and after we read it she just let it out! She was crying saying that she wants to change and she needs to change, but she has zero support from her family.. We are going to try and do everything we can to help her out so she can overcome this! Gonna try and get the branch involved also

Well this week our frying pan broke and I didn't think much of it because, i was just going to ask the zone leaders for a new one, but they can't get us a 5.00$ frying pan, but they can get us a 50.00$ blender... Doesn't make much sense to me, but anyways I was cooking my eggs yesterday morning and I had our oven mitts on holding the the pan while I was cooking because our handle broke, and I was making sure my eggs where cooked all the way and I didn't notice I was holding the pan for a good minute and when I took my hand off I noticed there was a lot of smoke and I thought my eggs where just burning... I was wrong lol my hand was on fire and I was freaking out, and their was smoke everywhere, but don't worry I am fine, just feel a little dumb that's all! Also yesterday we had to teach Sunday school with 5 minutes to prepare. Our counselors in the presidency are a little lazy but it's ok haha!

This week I read a lot out of the boom of mosiah and I really like chapter 24.  If you have the chance, go read it because I know that all of us go through hard time but the lord will always be their, I know that to be true! I am so grateful to be out here in the field! Love you guys and hope you have a great week!

Happy Mothers Day...

Hey everyone hope you guys had a great week, and a great Mother's Day! Hope you all had a great time talking and what not. This was another week here in liberty I guess you could say lol!

This was really just a plain week. A lot of knocking and not a whole lot of answers haha! This week was also very hot! We had one day where the wind was blowing and it felt like a blow dryer and it was miserable... This summer is gonna be good but awful at the same time!

We did do some service this week which was good. We helped a member tear out his back porch and that was fun. We got to use some big giant crowbars which made me feel pretty manly lol!

This week I was thinking and I am so grateful that I was born and raised in Utah haha! We have been trying to help a member that has been struggling with some things at school, and it really made me grateful to have been raised there. These kids really do have it tough and I have so much respect for them because there really are some stupid kids here...

Anyways that's all I got this week! Love you guys and hope you have a great week!

Pic: gotta haircut this week lol probably one of the most exciting things

Hola amigos

Hey everyone hope you guys had a great week! This was a very interesting/busy week here in liberty. Oh and we received transfer calls on Saturday and me and Elder Paulsen will be staying together one more here! I'm excited to be staying with Paulsen but we will see how my 4th transfer here in liberty will go haha!

So to start off this letter we had the opportunity to be in a trio this week with our district leader Elder Despain. His companion went home on Wednesday so we have been with him since then. We have been covering both of our areas so it has been very very busy. It was a pretty good 5 days with him, but let's just say that I am very glad that those 5 days are over haha! He is a good kid and a good missionary, but being in English land all week made me miss the Spanish people that we are teaching! And the fact he used all my workout equipment in the morning before me made me angry lol!

The people we are teaching are doing good. Our friends Rosa, and Rosa are back on the map once again! We had some very good lessons with them this past week! They didn't come to church yesterday but, we had a good lesson that cleared up some of the doubts and concerns they had. We should be having some more good lessons with them this week! Cool experience yesterday we went and visited our friend/recent convert Enrique. He has been really sad lately and hasn't really been talking to us a whole lot, because there in something on his mind that is bothering him, you can tell.

So we went over there and asked him if he wanted a blessing, and at first he sad no I'm OK. I really felt like I needed to give him a blessing so I kept trying to get a yes out of him, and eventually we got one! He was saying no because his dad was right there and he didn't wanna look weak in his words. Anyways I gave him the blessing and right after it was over he got up gave me the biggest hug and had a huge smile on his face, and said thank you that's just what I needed! After that he was talking with us being the Enrique that we know and love!

The experience we had yesterday with Enrique made me so grateful to be able to have the priesthood here on earth again! It's real, it works, and it's available to everyone! God knows and loves every single one of his children, I have no doubt about that! Love you guys and hope you have a great week! Love, Elder Stringfellow

David Enchilada

Hey everyone hope you guys had a good week! Not a whole lot of exciting things happened here in liberty this week... It is starting to get really hot and humid and it's making me less and less excited for the summer lol

Well to start off, last P-day was pretty good I guess..  Our district leader signed us up to do service for a national wildlife refuge, and we had to go around and paint the trunks of some trees so that people could follow the trails and not get lost even though the highway was like 2-3 miles from where we were at lol. That was the hermanas job lol, our job as Elders was to move trees and branches that had fallen on the trail. It wasn't the funniest P-day activity, but we had a good time and got some service out of it.

This week we did a lot of knocking and there wasn't a whole lot of success, but that's alright! Just gotta keep moving forward:) One of our solid investigators Rosa Lauren told us that she had a dream and that me and Elder Paulsen where in the dream holding the Book of Mormon telling her this is true, and after we had said that she saw a bunch of men and women dressed in white saying what we are teaching is true! She didn't know what to think so we taught her how people can receive answers to their questions through dreams and then talked about lehi and his dream. She said she has been praying everyday to see if what we are teaching is true, but hasn't received an answer, but we helped her come to the conclusion that this is her answer right here! Pretty cool lesson, but she went to go get her coffee from the donut shop, instead of going to church haha! She makes me laugh sometimes.

Yesterday was pretty awesome! Let me give you some background first, but David Archuleta came, spoke, and sang for a women's conference down here in Houston this week. Some of the members in the branch went and said it was awesome! Well davids little sister hermana archuleta is in our mission and she goes home in a week, so somehow she convinced president drake to have a fireside for some of the young adults in our stake and for the missionaries. The only way you could go as a missionary was if you brought an investigator or a recent convert. Me and Elder Paulsen invited the Garcia family they came, and they had a great time! David gave a good talk, and he can still sing pretty good! It was funny Hermano Garcia got in the car after the meeting and said, "dang, that David Enchilada can really belt it!" Me and the rest of the family where dying!! The whole time he thought that was his last name lol! Also got to see some of the other missionaries I have served with, and some of my favorite members from Port Arthur. Very good day :)

Anyways that's all I got this week. Love being a missionary and I am having such a fun time! Love you guys and hope you have a great week!

Bautismo!!

Hey everyone hope you guys had a great week! This was an awesome week here in liberty!

This Sunday we had our baptism for Lali and Anthony Garcia! It was so awesome!! Their dad received the priesthood after church and then after got to baptize his two kids and it was amazing to see! We have been working with them really hard, and I am so grateful for the opportunity to help them get to where they are today! After they where baptized the came back into the chapel and we asked how they both felt, and at the same time they both said clean! It was so awesome to be apart of this great opportunity! Hopefully by them making this decision will help out some of their family members that aren't members have the desire to learn more!

Other than that this week was pretty good! Me and Elder Paulsen had the opportunity to be some special guests in our district meeting! We where talking about how we can get out members more involved with the work and so our district leader wanted to do a role play, so me and Elder Paulsen dressed up as fake members and it was funny! I got to be the Spanish member Hermano guapo haha! It was funny they where teaching in English and I was acting like I didn't understand! Made the district leader a little angry, but you need to have fun on your mission!

We also saw a big giant flea market with a bunch of different booths! It was super big and there where a lot of drunk crazy rednecks their not gonna lie haha!

We had zone conference this week and that went good! President Drake is a really cool guy and a really good teacher! He talked about how we shouldn't have any excuses and to go out their and get it done! Well if we go out their with faith and confidence we can do anything! I know that to be true! I have had a lot of faith these past couple weeks and it has definitely worked out for me! We need to trash our list if excuses and go out there get it done! I love being a missionary and I am so grateful for the opportunity to be one!

That's all that really happened this week! Love all you guys and will continue to keep you guys in my prayers! Love you and have a great week!

City Council Mtg in Liberty Texas

Hey everyone hope you guys had a good week and a happy Easter! This was a pretty interesting week here in liberty!

So a while back Elder Johnson and I met the mayor of Liberty, Carl Pickett, and we had a nice little conversation with him. I didn't think much of it, but he called us the other day and asked if Elder Stringfellow was the one talking and I said yes, this is him, and then he asked us if I was able to say the prayer to start off city council meeting and if Elder Paulsen could lead the pledge of allegiance. We said heck yeah we can haha! We went and did that on Tuesday and it was really cool! Got to explain what we do everyday and that we are those crazy dudes on the bikes! Also found out that Texas has their own pledge of allegiance and and they recite it after the actual one. It was a little weird, but it didn't surprise me cause it's Texas, and it's it own country haha!

Other than that, everything here is pretty much the same. Just trying to find people really. We where going to have a baptism this Sunday,  but Lail and Anthony missed their interviews on both Friday and Saturday! That was super frustrating, but they came to church yesterday, said they where sorry and what not, and we ended up having the interviews right after church. They will be baptized next week by their dad who just received the priesthood! It's gonna be super awesome I'm super excited! Just please pray everything goes well! We also got their less active uncle Noe to come to church for the first time in 21 years! He loves us missionaries and he hooks us up with some cool stuff! Really cool guy!

I love Easter time! It's a time for us to remember Jesus Christ and what he did for us! I am so grateful that he suffered and died for us, but knowing that he lived again, and we all will also, brings me great comfort! I am grateful for the plan our Heavenly Father has for each and everyone of us! He really does love us and knows what's best for us! I am so grateful for the opportunity to be a missionary! Wouldn't trade it for anything right now!

Love you guys and hope you have a great week! Go jazz :)

On the slow side...

Hey everyone hope you guys had a great week! This was just another week here in liberty not gonna lie!

This week was a little bit on the slow side... we usually have most of our appointments with investigators after 4-5:00 because that's when they are usually getting home from work and school and what not, but before that time is very hard to find people to talk too. We are in a small town and I've talked to most of the Hispanics and white people here so it's kind of hard, but I know god has me here for a reason and it's for the people I am working with right now! We did a lot of knocking and trying to find people and all we got was a bunch of angry white people that said if we don't get off their porch we are gonna sick our dogs on you haha!

Our people are doing good! We are having the baptism for Lali and Anthony here this Sunday and I am super excited! Please pray that we will be able to talk to them soon and get them ready! They are sometimes hard to talk with. Everyone else is doing good. Just need to work on a couple things with them, and I know the lord will help us out! I also got the opportunity to speak in sacrament meeting about member missionary work. Talked about ways we can share the gospel and the importance of it.

As I have been studying and thinking about this last general conference I haven been thinking about how grateful we are to have a prophet today! Even though his messages where short, the where too the point, and it's something we really need to do right now! I am so grateful to be out here and for the opportunity to be a missionary! Life is good :)

Love you guys and hope you have an awesome week!
