Transferred to Galena Park, TX

Hey everyone hope you guys had a good week! This was a good last week here in liberty! I am getting transferred, but I don't know where yet haha!

This was a good week this week! We had some good progression with Rosa! She is still doing good with no smoking and drinking! Hopefully she will be baptized here in the next couple weeks! Nothing really much to report on this week!

Me and Elder Paulsen just had fun this week! We got work done and had some good times! One thing we had to do this week was give talks in sacrament meeting. All 4 missionaries in the branch had to give one on the same topic and it was kind difficult because I was the last speaker and most of the stuff had already been talked about haha! Anyways it went really good!

Had to say bye to a lot of good members this week which was kind of sad... This area has been good to me, but I am ready for a change! I love you guys and hope you have a great week!

Power of the Priesthood

Hey everyone hope you guys had a great week! I am here in galena park with my boy elder nabo! He is from Africa and he is about 6'7! Super cool and funny also!

Well let's just say, I got so many hispanos on my hands I don't know what to do with myself haha! Here there are so many more than my last area! We get fed so much also, I probably had more dinners this past week here than I did my entire time in liberty haha! We have a hermana that makes homemade betos burritos and they are sooooo good! Best things I have ever had! Also had some bomb tacos as well!

When it comes to investigators we have some solid people. Taught a guy named Carlos yesterday that is super ready I am really excited to work with him!

Yesterday we had an experience that really opened my eyes... we where driving back from dinner at our bishops house and all of sudden traffic stopped and we had to slam on our brakes. There was obviously an accident and we knew that there was a person in the car. So we pulled the car over and ran over to the car and saw the young lady sitting there barely breathing with a big giant cut in her forehead. I'm not gonna get too graphic but you could see her brain, and the first thing we tried to do was give her a blessing.  We did, and waited about 10-15 minutes for ambulance to show up. When they came she was still breathing and everything but right as they tried to take she passed away. If their is anything that I learned from yesterday is that god has a plan for all of us. It was definitely shocking to see someone pass away right in front of me.  I am so grateful for the plan of salvation and everything it has in store for me. I really hope that she had a taste of what the gospel is in this life. I know this church is true and god has a plan not only for me but for everyone!

Hopefully this all makes sense... Was a pretty crazy week not gonna lie.  Thanks for the the love! Love you guys and have a great week!

Patience Grasshopper...

Hey hope you guys had a good week! This was a pretty good week here in liberty.

Well not a whole lot of exciting things happened this week. We are still working with Rosa Chavez and she is still doing good with no smoking. We have her on date for this Sunday but we will see how that goes. The other rosas are doing good. They wanted to come to church this week, but it was stake conference and it's about a 45 minute drive to the stake center so none of the rosas ended up coming but that's ok:)

As I said we had stake conference this week and it was really good! Elder Dube from the seventy came and spoke and he gave a great talk. He has a really thick accent and it was kind of hard to understand, but what I got out of it was really good! I also got to see some of my homies from other areas which is always fun! On our way home we got stuck in traffic for like 45 minutes because of a huge accident. They had to life flight the person to the hospital and the helicopter flew right over us. That was probably the most exciting thing of the week right their haha!

I also got to go on exchanges with my good friend Elder Bingham. We talked a lot about the good times we have had, and we talked a little basketball as well lol ;) we also called up some of our favorite people from other areas and it was cool to be able to go with them! We did however have a very spiritual lesson with the husband of Rosa Chavez, Arturo. He said he wants to find ways to feel closer to god, and we where like well why don't you help out your wife, and stuff like that. Hopefully we can teach him more throughout the coming weeks.

Sorry if these letters are getting boring for those who read, not gonna lie this is a pretty dry place haha, but I love being a missionary, and I wouldn't wanna be any where else! Love you guys and hope you have a great week!

Another Day in Liberty, TX

Hey everyone hope you guys had a good week! This was a pretty interesting week here in liberty!

To start things off our #1 investigator Rosa Chavez is doing great! She has made it 6 days without smoking, or drinking or anything like that! We go and visit her everyday, and she loves it when we come, and we love going to visit with her because we always have great lessons with her! Without smoking and drinking in her life, she seems so much more happier, and it looks like she has a lot more energy to get everything done that she needs to get done. Yesterday she came to church and bore her testimony, and it was one of the coolest experiences of mission, hearing a non member bear their testimony in front of everyone saying, I know that this church is true and I can't wait to be baptized so that I can feel clean again, has to be one of the best feelings their is!

Other than that this week, we have been trying to find people to teach. We thought their would be a lot more people at home because school just got out and what not, but we where sooooo wrong lol. The other day we probably knocked about 30 houses throughout the day, and we got 2 answers, and the where white people lol! Just gotta keep moving forward!

On Tuesday we had dinner with an English member with the English members. The member that fed us is so nice and sweet, but she is about 90% blind and can only really see shapes and what not. She loves to have the missionaries over and talk with us, and we love to go over their as well! I felt really stupid because we where talking about a movie, and me, being the genius that I am asked her if she had ever seen the movie, totally forgetting that she was BLIND! I have never felt more stupid then I did in that moment haha! This is only the beginning of our dinner....

So this member lives with a man named jerry. Jerry is a returned Vietnam vet and this guy is something else... The reason he is living with her is because he got drunk and ran into her trailer and totally wrecked it. So he feels bad and is letting her stay with him because she has family all over the country. Jerry has PTSD really bad and he feels like the government made him into what he is today. He has been blown up about 5 times according to him, and his whole body is made out of metal because of all the operations. We where talking, and he looked at me and said, our you a nazi? I was a little surprised, and then he said, hitler made you in his laboratory didn't he?? I didn't know that to say so me and the other elders just kind of went along with it and it was funny! Then we where talking about something else and I was paying attention to what he had to say, then he looked at me and said whatcha looking at?? Don't think I won't come over their and best you up cuz I will said jerry. I said I don't doubt that as his fists where clenched ready to just deck me right in the face. He then turned to everyone and, I beat all of you up, and if I can't take you guys down, I just shoot you all! I gotta little scared right their because he has an assault rifle right next to his garbage can lol! Later in he clammed down a bit and went of on the government and what not, but that was one of the most interesting experiences of my mission to say the least haha!

Kind of a long letter this week, but I love all of you and just wanna let you know that o love what I am doing, and I wouldn't wanna be anywhere else right now! Love all of you and hope you have a great week!

Broken Frying Pan

Hey everyone hope you guys had a great week this week! This was a pretty interesting week here in liberty! As always it was hot as crap

To start things off we went in exchanges this Tuesday and it went pretty good. The best part was I got my back adjusted and it feels amazing haha! Also got to play with a bulldog named Zeus and I thought he was gonna die because he was so excited and was breathing so heavy! It made me laugh!

Well our investigator Rosa was doing really well. She is still coming to church reading and praying as everything but there is still that one thing holding her back.... We where walking to her front door going to teach her, and she was outside smoking:( I was super sad because she was doing really good, but I know This is something that is super hard to overcome. After we taught her and we had one of the best lessons of my mission! We went in their and and talked with her a little bit and shared ether 12:27 and after we read it she just let it out! She was crying saying that she wants to change and she needs to change, but she has zero support from her family.. We are going to try and do everything we can to help her out so she can overcome this! Gonna try and get the branch involved also

Well this week our frying pan broke and I didn't think much of it because, i was just going to ask the zone leaders for a new one, but they can't get us a 5.00$ frying pan, but they can get us a 50.00$ blender... Doesn't make much sense to me, but anyways I was cooking my eggs yesterday morning and I had our oven mitts on holding the the pan while I was cooking because our handle broke, and I was making sure my eggs where cooked all the way and I didn't notice I was holding the pan for a good minute and when I took my hand off I noticed there was a lot of smoke and I thought my eggs where just burning... I was wrong lol my hand was on fire and I was freaking out, and their was smoke everywhere, but don't worry I am fine, just feel a little dumb that's all! Also yesterday we had to teach Sunday school with 5 minutes to prepare. Our counselors in the presidency are a little lazy but it's ok haha!

This week I read a lot out of the boom of mosiah and I really like chapter 24.  If you have the chance, go read it because I know that all of us go through hard time but the lord will always be their, I know that to be true! I am so grateful to be out here in the field! Love you guys and hope you have a great week!
